Garrett with is Great Uncle Ralph and Cousin Kacey
Our very strong little boy
Garrett was born 7 weeks early. I went in for my 32 week checkup at the doctor. There they noticed that my blood pressure was a little high and that I had some protein in my urine. They thought I had a bladdar infection, they gave me some medicine for it an sent me on my way. I had to come back the next week for another checkup.
So on Sept 29th 2008 I went back to the doctor again. This time I went by myself. Wayne usually went with me but he had work the night before and was at home sleeping. He didnt come cause we thought it would be another routine appointment. when I got there they did the usual checking. When the doctor came in she sent me right to the hospital. By blood pressure was very very high and had more protein in my urnine.
So I went to the hospital, scared to death because I was by my self and couldnt get a hold of anyone. Called my mom and told her so she could get a hold of everyone. I checked in and they took me back. I had to get a shot in my hip for the baby's lungs to help them develop because I was only 33 weeks along. They admitted me to the hospital. I was then told that I had preeclampisa. That day was a very long day, seeing all kinds of doctors and having all kinds of medicine and test for me and the baby. I got another shot in my hip for the babys lungs. They wanted to wait an delivery him after an 24 hour period of that shot. I had some medicine through IV that made me feel horrible.
They tried all kinds of things to get me to start going into labor, but my body sjust would not do it. So they said that I had to have a c-section. I had the c-section on Sept 30 2008 at 2:20pm. They got him out and showed him to me and Wayne. I had to stay in the hospital for a whole week, so they could get my blood pressure back down. Then they took Garrett to the NICU.
Garrett weighed 4 lbs 2.3 ounces and was 17 inches long. He stayed in the hospital till Oct 24 2008. So almosy a whole month. When he first got in there they had a hood on him to help him breathe. Then they put him on cpap because his lungs were not working like they were supposed to because they were not developed all the way yet. The cpap made a whole in his lungs. So they had to put a chest tube in him to get the air out that was escape out the whole. Then they put him on a vent so that his lungs could heal. That was the hardest time in our lives. The doctor told us that if Garrett had been born a few years earlier he would have died. That scared us so much that we rented a room to stay at the hospital so we could be close to him. We went an saw him every time we could.
After he got off the vent he had to stay in his incubatior till he could regulate his own body temp. He also had to learn how to suck from the bottle. We worked with him all the times that we could.
Then on Oct 23 2008, we went to see him and he was out of the incubator and finally had the last of his tubes out. That was when they told us he could go home. We had to spend one more night in the hospital with Garrett in our room, so we could get use to him being with us. Garrett also had to do a car seat test, where they put him in it and he had to stay in there for 30 mins. That way they could make sure his breathing an all would be ok.
After all the scary things that happened to us in that month, everything worked out all ok and Garrett is as strong and healthy as can be!!

Garrett
Garrett is doing great. He is up to 14.9 pounds and is 25 inches long now. Hes going to be 5 months old at the end of the month. He is starting to sit with help. He is also starting to roll from back to his side and back. His doctor said we can see if he is ready to start eating baby food. I am so excited about that. He is growing up so fast. He is just the greatest baby and we love him so much.
